In and Around Carmel
One of the best ways to see Carmel is on foot. You will discover over 60 hidden courtyards where many specialty shops and cafes are found. carmel by the seaYou will also find the special charms of Carmel-by-the-Sea as you discover secret pathways, award-winning gardens, and enchanting fairy tale cottages … the homes, haunts, and history of famous artists, writers, and movie stars. Stroll along the white-sand beach. Or picnic on the bluff tops over looking Carmel Beach and the Pebble Beach golf courses and coastline.
Scenic Drive is just 3 blocks from the Inn and affords beautiful scenes of the beach and majestic waves as you take as little or long a walk on the sidewalk or beach itself. Pets are welcome on the main beach without leads, but must be under command.
Carmel River Beach is 3 blocks from the Inn as well. It is a level walk and the beach is nicely large and easy to stroll on. Pets are also welcome, but must be on a lead.
Point Lobos is not to be missed … just ten minutes from the Inn on Highway 1 south toward Big Sur, the meeting of the sea and land is incredible. A perfect place for a walk or hike.
Within 15 minutes, visit Monterey with the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row as well as many other places of interest. Pebble Beach and 17-Mile Drive are within minutes. While there, meander to Pacific Grove, referred to “America’s last home town.” For a slightly longer trip, sunny Carmel Valley is a treat with ranches and orchards and the Carmel Valley Village with unique shops and restaurants. An hour will take you to Big Sur, which locals often refer to as “a state of mind”. Be prepared for a lovely day and incredible views.
Shopping and Dining in Carmel
Find a variety of lovely shops, boutiques and visit Carmel Plaza for an exceptional experience. A mile trip to either the Barnyard Shopping Center or Crossroads Shopping Center where you can find unique shops and restaurants should also be on your agenda. A variety of wonderful restaurants await your choice. Menu books are provided for our guests along with maps showing which restaurants allow pets. We are also happy to recommend our favorites.
An Artist Town … Culture in Carmel
Carmel’s primary social and cultural facilities are the Sunset Community and Cultural Center, the Harrison Memorial Library, the Golden Bough Playhouse and the Outdoor Forest Theatre.
